Swedish manufacturer of the R5 specification Mitsubishi Mirage Mpart AB, has revealed it has been developing an all-electric version of its Swedish-built rally car since 2015: the Mirage R5e.

For Örebro-based Mpart AB, getting its four R5 specification Mitsubishi Mirages into the top four places of the National 4 Class on Rally Sweden was exactly what the team was hoping for, the result showcasing the cars on the global stage and confirming their inherent reliability. The four-car Mirage charge was led by Anders Karlsson and his co-driver Björn Nilsson, who dominated the event’s National category and recorded a top 30 overall finish in the process.

Three Mpart AP4 Mirages compete in Rally Johor

The Rally Johor is this year’s Malaysian round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship and, having finished second in the equivalent event last year, the MPart team were eager to repeat the performance. Using his experience from 2016 when he described the event as ‘the most challenging rally in the world’, Jari Ketomaa together with his co-driver Ville Mannisenmäki, finished third and in doing so, claimed their second podium result of the season.

Full season in Asia-Pacific Rally Championship for MPart Mitsubishis

Success in Malaysia for R5 Specification Mitsubishi

The Mpart team achieved what has been hailed as a ‘momentous result’ this weekend, when Jari Ketomaa and Mikko Lukka finished an impressive second overall in the Malaysian Rally driving an R5 specification Mitsubishi Mirage. The result was made even more rewarding taking into account the extreme conditions the car and crew had to endure during the two-day, 14-stage, 234 kilometre event.

R5 specification Mitsubishi takes Jersey Rally victory

Following a fiercely fought battle throughout the event, British driver Simon Mauger scored the first outright win for the Spencer Sport Mitsubishi Mirage and in doing so, scored his sixth personal victory in the Jersey Rally. He and co-driver Brian Cammack ended the 31-stage event with an eventual winning margin of 4.7 seconds.

Saturday 17th September marked an historic occasion for the R5 specification Mitsubishi Mirage/Space Star, when Robert Blomberg and co-driver Lars Andersson claimed the MSA British Rally Championship National Rally Cup title. Their second place on the Rally Isle of Man – the seventh and final round of the British Rally Championship – secured their victory in the category that they had led since the middle of the season.

R5 specification Mitsubishi takes second victory in a row in British Rally Championship National Cup

For the second time in as many events, Robert Blomberg and co-driver Lars Andersson from Trollhättan won a round of the British Rally Championship National Rally Cup. Driving their Mitsubishi Mirage/Space Star on this weekend’s (9th & 10th July) Nicky Grist Stages Rally, they took the lead from stage four and continued to dominate the category for the remainder of the event.

Friday and Saturday’s (8th & 9th April) Circuit of Ireland Rally - the second round of the MSA British and FIA European Rally Championships – saw two R5 specification Mitsubishis take part in the national section of the event. Jamie Jukes and co-driver David Williams from Wales brought their Spencer Sport car home second in the BRC National Rally Cup, whilst Swedes Robert Blomberg and Lars Andersson finished fifth in the O’Learys Sports Bar car.

Good result for Spencer Sport

Driving the Spencer Sport Mitsubishi Mirage, Jamie Jukes and his co-driver Dave Williams from Wales got their season off to an impressive start on Sunday’s (21st February) Llandovery-based Red Kite Stages. After loosing time due to a puncture on the first stage, they fought back over the remaining five to finish fourth overall.

R5 specification Mitsubishi development programme gathers pace

Following a series of successful tests in Sweden over the past few weeks, the development of the R5 specification Mitsubishi will move to its next phase in the second-half of this month, with the car set to take part in the Emmeloord-based Tank S Rally on 21st March and the Rally of North Wales a week later on 28th March.
